林志遠神父憶述第二次世界大戰香港淪陷時期的修院生活:
林神父於1940年抵達香港華南總修院，同年十二月八日日本軍侵襲香港。淪陷時期修院生活艱苦，林神父憑著一股熱誠的服務精神及聰明的頭腦來協助院長Fr. O'Meara 帶領修院渡過難關。其間更領悟到要不是得到天主的保祐，他們都活不了。
